Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Meatballs:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for browning)
  • For the Gravy:
    • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Toppings and Garnish:
    • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.
    • Form the mixture into 12-15 evenly sized meatballs.
  2. Brown the Meatballs:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onions until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
    • Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
    • Gradually add the beef broth while whisking to create a smooth sauce. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  4. Simmer the Meatballs:
    • Return the browned meatballs to the skillet. Spoon the gravy over them, cover the skillet, and simmer for 10 minutes to cook through and infuse flavors.
  5. Add the Cheese:
    • Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the meatballs. Cover and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Top with freshly chopped parsley. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, pasta, or with crusty garlic bread for a cozy, comforting meal.
